Back! 65 to 70 days. Open pollinated. The earliest watermelon, Blacktail Mountain produced perfect, round, very sweet, crisp, and delicious fruits for me in Northern Idaho, where most gardeners don’t bother trying to grow watermelon. Handles cool climates well, and also did well for us in the humidity and heat of Southern Missouri. Really, you can grow it just about anywhere. Fruits are not huge, 8″ to 10″ across, have a deep green rind and crimson flesh. Vines grow to about 10 feet. Developed by Glenn Drowns when he lived in Northern Idaho, near Blacktail Mountain, which is where my first market garden was. He had since moved to Iowa, and was happy to send me seeds many years ago. He said they were “going home.” I have grown this watermelon for more than 20 years and it has never disappointed as long as, like other watermelons, it is not over watered (especially when fruits are ripening).

Our plants are shipped in individual 3″ deep pots. They are ready to be planted out in your garden.
