Italian Heirloom that produces a zucchini type summer squash and a butternut type winter squash. Bug resistant…

60 days summer squash, 90 days winter squash. OP. Heirloom from Italy. Cucurbita moschata. Rambling vines produce pale green, 12″ to 18″ long, thin, summer squash, with a yellow interior, that has more flavor and a firmer texture than zucchinis. Puts them to shame. Very good, indeed! Leave fruits on vine to mature into a 2′ to 3′ long, curved winter squash that looks like a stretched-out butternut squash, and can be used the same way. Italian’s use them in ravioli. The huge blossoms make good fried/stuffed squash blossoms. Squash vine borer and squash bug resistant. All of our other squashes and pumpkins succumbed early in the summer. But, Zucca kept going until frost. We saw squash bugs on it, but they never got out of hand or did serious damage. The stem is very woody and corky coming right out of the ground, so we suspect that is why the borer leaves it alone. Amazingly productive, we harvested about 20 winter squashes from one hill. You can trellis and prune the vines at about 8′ to keep them from rambling all over the garden. Seed was given to us by an Italian Doctor from Long Island, whose family brought it from Italy.

Within 24 hours of receiving your order, we will e-mail you with a shipping date that we choose based on your last frost date. You are welcome to change the date to any other shipping week. Just respond to the e-mail and tell us when you want your plants. Our first shipping date is late March, weather permitting. We will not have plants available before then.

Our plants are sustainably raised in our own potting mix. We use only organic fertilizers and sprays if needed. We have been growing and selling plants since 1997.

Our plants are shipped in individual 3″ deep pots, and are ready to be planted out in your garden.

We package our plants with extreme care so they arrive undamaged at your doorstep. Each plant is tucked into its own padded sleeve. The soil in each pot is covered so it will not spill out. A plant tag identifying the variety is included with each plant.

We ship every Monday and Tuesday, from late March through May, according to your location or your request. We currently ship to every state except Hawaii and Alaska.
