Also known as Husk Cherry, these one-bite fruits are terrific for snacking…
60 days. OP. Small (3/8″ to 5/8″) fruits grow inside papery husks, like a tomatillo. But, Ground Cherries are tastier and sweeter eaten fresh. Kids love these. The taste is similar to pineapple. Also makes excellent preserves, pies, and sauce. Short plants, 12″ to 18″, spread out. Grow in pots or raised beds for easier harvesting. Ripe when pineapple yellow. This is an early variety that should grow just about anywhere. Fruits stay fresh in the husk for a week or more, and are sweetest when they fall off the plant.
